Kybella™ Double Chin Reduction in Savannah, GA
Locations Also in Hilton Head, Statesboro & Effingham
The Georgia Institute for Plastic Surgery is pleased to offer a treatment for your double chin! Be the first to try this revolutionary, recently FDA-approved injectable, called KYBELLA™ (deoxycholic acid). This unique product contours and improves the appearance of moderate to severe submental fullness, sometimes referred to as a “double chin.” Submental fullness can impact a broad range of adults, including both men and women, and can be influenced by several factors such as aging, genetics and weight gain and is often resistant to diet and exercise alone. According to a survey by the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, nearly as many consumers are bothered by submental fullness (68 percent) as by lines and wrinkles around the eyes (71 percent). When injected into subcutaneous fat, KYBELLA™ injection treatment causes the destruction of fat cells. Once destroyed, those cells cannot store or accumulate fat. The most common side effects are swelling, bruising, pain, numbness, redness and formation of small areas of firmness around the treatment area. KYBELLA™ can cause serious side effects, including trouble swallowing and nerve injury in the jaw that can cause an uneven smile or facial muscle weakness.
We are the first cosmetic surgery practice in Southeast Georgia that is providing KYBELLA™ injections. We are excited to be the first cosmetic surgery practice in our area to offer KYBELLA™ to patients. Our Doctors at The Georgia Institute for Plastic Surgery have been trained on the proper techniques on administering the treatment for the safety of our patients. Each in-office treatment session with KYBELLA™ typically lasts 15 to 20 minutes. When injected into subcutaneous fat, KYBELLA™ causes the destruction of fat cells. Once destroyed, those cells cannot store or accumulate fat. After the aesthetic response is achieved with KYBELLA™ , re-treatment is not expected. With this nonsurgical treatment, many patients experience visible results in two to four treatment sessions spaced at least one month apart. Up to six treatments may be administered. Treatment with KYBELLA™ is customized by our surgeons to the patient’s aesthetic goals for an improved chin profile.

- Q: What is Kybella?
Kybella is a naturally occurring material that is in all of us that helps to destroy fat and consume it.
- Q: What is Kybella used for?
Kybella is used like any other injection like Botox of Fillers (Juvederm, Retalylane) dissolving the fat in the region where individuals commonly get double chins. A lot of the candidates that use to want to get rid of this access to skin to make sharper jaw lines and neck contours only option was surgical process (Liposuction/neck lift). Some patients may not be a candidate for Kybella and only a consultation with a member of The Georgia Institute for Plastic Surgery could determine this.
Kybella is a nonsurgical option for candidates that want excess skin around ones neck removed or a sharper looking jawline. It used to be the only option for these individuals was Liposuction and or a neck lift. This treatment is applied like any other injection such as Botox or a Filler (Juvederm, Restalyne) however it has the ability to dissolve the fat in areas where individuals commonly get double chins. Some patients may not be a candidate for Kybella and only a consultation with a member of The Georgia Institute for Plastic Surgery could determine this.
- Q: When and where can I get this done?
The Georgia Institute for Plastic Surgery has numerous centrally located facilities all throughout the Georgia and South Carolina region where you can determine if you are a candidate for this procedure, call today to set your appointment: 800-260-7135.
- Q: How long does Kybella last?
Kybella is a permanent solution for dissolving fat in the neck and jawline area. This is one of the big things that makes it different from fillers and Botox.
- Q: What happens to the skin in the area after Kybella?
What makes Kybella so popular as an option for neck lifts is one of its side effects is that it helps to tighten and lift the skin as it is healing.
- Q: How long does it take to heal?
Typically most individuals will have a very minimal level of discomfort no different than any other injectable. This goes away very quickly.
- Q: When can I expect to see results?
Most patients will expect to see change within a 3-4 week period. Results will vary per the level of fat that is accumulated in each candidate’s neck and jawline region.
- Q: How many Treatments will I need?
Most individuals will need 3-4 different treatments sessions to get the desired outcome. We like to space those about a month apart from one another.
- Q: Why should I go to The Georgia Institute for Plastic Surgery for Kybella?
All individuals who inject Kybella will have to go through a training process with a certified Kybella Faculty Trainer first. We are proud to be the first facility in the area that was trained to administer this neck slimming alternative. Do not accept generic forms or compounds that are not Kybella, as they have not been FDA tested or approved.
“Treatment with Kybella should only be provided by a licensed health care professional, and patients should fully understand the risks associated with use of the drug before considering treatment,” said Amy G. Egan, M.D., M.P.H., deputy director of the Office of Drug Evaluation III in the FDA’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research. “It is important to remember that Kybella is only approved for the treatment of fat occurring below the chin, and it is not known if Kybella is safe or effective for treatment outside of this area.”
- Q: Can anyone have Kybella?
Patients with consolidated fat deposits and fullness underneath the chin are great candidates for having Kybella. Patients who have a lot of loose and hanging skin (“turkey neck”) are not good candidates for this procedure, because Kybella is not intended to remove skin. However, patients who have what is commonly referred to as turkey neck could have a neck lift performed by one of our surgeons here. Also, if you suffer from bleeding problems or already have difficulty swallowing, you may not be a good candidate for Kybella. We will spend the time with every patient and will thoroughly review your medical history to see if Kybella or any procedure is right for you.
- Q: What are the side effects?
The safety and effectiveness of Kybella were established in two large studies, which enrolled over 1,000 adult participants with moderate or severe submental fat. The participants who received Kybella (for up to six treatments) instead of a placebo (non-Kybella) more frequently saw reductions in fat and improved jawline/neckline contour.
Kybella can cause serious side effects, including nerve injury in the jaw that can cause an uneven smile or facial muscle weakness, and trouble swallowing. The most common side effects of Kybella include swelling, bruising, pain, numbness, redness and areas of hardness in the treatment area. These side effects are also the most common side effects seen with Botox injections or dermal fillers like Juvederm and Restylane.
- Q: Do I need anesthesia or have this administered in an operating room?
Absolutely not, this is one of the huge benefits of this treatment. No different than Botox or dermal a filler, this treatment can be applied simply with a very minimal level of pain.
- Q: How much does Kybella cost?
Pricing of this will vary from patient to patient depending on how many treatments will be necessary for the desired outcome. To get an idea of cost we recommend you come in for a consultation to get an idea of the cost range.
